Value and contributions of medical imaging professionals.

The National Radiologic Technology Week© was created to highlight the value and contributions of medical imaging professionals. Each year, radiologic technologists celebrate the day Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered the X-ray, Nov. 8, 1895. This year’s week-long celebration calls attention to the vital work technologists perform in the health care field on a daily basis, and the highly technical images they produce. During the course of the week, Spangdahlem R.T.’s are
promoting the role they play in providing quality patient care and a safe health care environment with their knowledge of radiation safety and imaging expertise. People may not realize Germany is the birthplace of radiology. Wilhelm Roentgen discovered the X-ray while working in his lab in Würzburg, Germany, approximately three hours east of Spangdahlem. Registered technologist, rather than a student.

After nearly two years of clinical training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Daniel Young joined his colleagues in celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week© for the first time as a registered technologist, rather than a student. Young is among 200 radiologic technologists celebrated by the hospital last week with an array of events including a lecture series, a poster presentation and a buffet dinner. Technologists also received jackets with their department logo. The events recognized the work of radiographers and also highlighted the success of those who have trained at BWH, and BWH’s commitment to training the next generation of technologists. “We offer the best training because today’s students are tomorrow’s radiologic technologists,” said Carl Patturelli, RT, MEd, MBA, director of Education for Radiology. Angela Covington recently was hired as a radiologic technologist. “I hope to celebrate many more of these weeks in the future,” said Covington. BWH Bulletin (Massachusetts)

School of Radiologic Technology

Collins Career Center School of Radiologic Technology recently celebrated National Radiologic Technology Week© by honoring technologists at their clinical rotation sites. The program is currently affiliated with four clinical sites. Senior students elected the radiologic technologist in each site which they deemed most supportive during the duration of their two year program. The technologists received recognition and were presented with a gift pack and a plaque to be displayed in their organization’s radiology departments. Collins Career Center (Ohio)

Think November and you might be thinking Thanksgiving turkey.

Think November and you might be thinking Thanksgiving turkey. But, when a radiologic technologist thinks November, they think National Radiologic Technology Week©. It honors professionals in diagnostic imaging and their field. MU School of Health Professions faculty saluted the students who have chosen this important career. “We recognize technologists in the field who help with the education of our radiology students with pens,” says Carla Allen, clinical coordinator for the SHP radiography program. The students also are recognized for their hard work with a gift from the radiology faculty. Both the technologists and the radiology students are grateful for the recognition. CARE bill, vital legislation

The University of Louisiana Monroe Department of Radiologic Technology has several events scheduled in honor of National Radiologic Technology Week©. Chi Beta Gamma, ULM’s Rad Tech professional student organization, will continue to give back to the community through the CBG Philanthropy Collection. They are gathering toiletry bags for an area shelter; the bags will be distributed to those in need in the community. The department instructors will hold an annual meeting with area technologists that serve as clinical instructors for the ULM Rad Tech students. The department will finish the week with a NRTW Celebration pizza party and presentation on the CARE bill. This vital legislation will provide national standards for all imaging professionals, necessary to protect patients from unqualified individuals performing exams using ionizing radiation. The department invites everyone to support NRTW by thanking a Registered Technologist that you may come in contact with during the week. ULM News (Louisiana)

Technologists reaffirm their commitment to patient

Hospitals in the Columbus area will recognize National Radiologic Technology Week® through special events in the radiology/imaging departments. One area hospital will be creating displays showcasing each of the Radiologic technology modalities so the public can become more familiar with each modality and what it contributes to diagnostic imaging. The hospitals will be bringing public attention to the technologists who work in their departments and will be honoring them with various activities throughout the week. Radiology students from Columbus Technical College will be participating in these events. During NRTW, radiologic technologists reaffirm their commitment to patient health, increase awareness about the profession and celebrate the importance of their contributions to the medical community.Columbus Technical College (Georgia)
